Math Matching

Posted on December 20, 2016 by Scot Allen

As part of their semester review, Ms. Kanja's AP Calculus-AB students completed a group activity in which they had to match a function's equation to its graph, its first derivative's graph, its second derivative's graph and a description of the function.

Students helped each other review calculus terminology and concepts like points of inflection, critical numbers, relative extrema, differentiability and concavity as they worked together to sort the cards into sets.

This activity gave students the opportunity to reflect on their learning and reinforce their conceptual knowledge of the connections between analytical, graphical and verbal representations of mathematics while preparing for their final exam.
